Who doesn't love a butterfly?
Monarchs aren't actually native to Australia, but they've been here since the 1800s and have fully made themselves at home. Depending where you are, you'll see them either all year round or mostly through the warmer months. I'm lucky enough to live somewhere they show up almost constantly.
They're all over my garden, drifting through picnics, hanging around the beach, moving through life like little flashes of colour. That colour is what makes them so striking. But it's also doing a job. In nature, a marking that bright is a signal, a way of saying I'm not one to mess with.
That's the duality I kept coming back to. The most beautiful thing in the garden is also the one that carries a bit of an edge. Beauty and a warning, in the same set of wings.
This print took me straight back to a butterfly-wing bikini we made years ago. Monarch Edge is my version of that, turned all the way up. We did it in coral rather than the obvious orange, softer to look at, but the message underneath is the same.
